Scoop: Paralympic gold medalist Evan Strong is Grand Marshal in Fourth of July Parade in Nevada City

Snowboard cross champion Evan Strong made history after an inspiring performance in Sochi this winter, taking home gold and becoming the first elite para-athlete to appear on the iconic Wheaties box.

Now Strong is going to be the Grand Marshal in the Fourth of July parade in Nevada City, our magazine has learned.

The parade will be Friday, July 4 at 11 a.m., which will include about 75 entries.

The festive parade comes down Broad Street in Nevada City.  Parade-goers are advised to bring lawn chairs and arrive early to find a good vantage point.

Strong, a native of Hawaii, resides in Nevada City. His family owns The Fix for Foodies restaurant in the historic district.

The 27-year-old won the inaugural Winter Paralympics men’s snowboard cross gold medal in Sochi, Russia.

A hometown parade for Strong was rained out, but held indoors at the Miners Foundry.
