BP Landscapes for yard artistry

WHY GO TO HAWAII OR ITALY THIS SUMMER? The foothills offer an idyllic lifestyle, and relaxing in your own backyard—with new landscaping—provides an instant, lasting and gratifying “getaway.”

For as little as $3,000 to $5,000, you can transform a plain looking space into a lush patio, with a water feature, plantings, natural stones and a fire pit—a permanent “escape.”

“We’re focusing a lot of our energy on creating small, inviting and productive outdoor living spaces for that amount of money,” says Bob Zucca, co-founder of BP Landscapes in Grass Valley. “We can do this in relatively small spaces.”

The space—as small as 10 by 15 feet, or 20 by 25 feet—can be transformed into a relaxing garden, with flowering Dogwoods, Japanese maples, ornamental grasses, plus a small fountain or pond. Fire pits (think campfire s’mores in your backyard) also are popular and reasonable.

BP Landscapes also has embraced sustainable landscape designs, with drought resistant native plants and low water use.

Environmentally friendly landscaping can save time and money with lower maintenance.

Small-space landscaping, including eco-friendly design, is catching on across the nation. Some of the landscaping is edible, while others create a habitat for birds and butterflies.

The foothills pose unique landscaping challenges. “There are eight different climates,” says Bob.

Professional landscapers such as BP can help out. Its staff has more than 150 years of design experience. BP’s consultants work with customers to help with the design, layout and plant selection that is best suited to the space.

Bob and Pieter Rossi started BP Landscapes in 1990 with a hand-shake and a $5,000 investment by each partner.

Their business has grown to become one of the foothill’s premier landscaping firms.

As one customer sums it up: “You created a wonderful little yard for me to enjoy. I appreciate the customer service you provided and continue to provide.”
