First Friday ArtWalk in Nevada City: Where Art Abounds

First Friday ArtWalk celebrates Nevada City’s eclectic mix of galleries, artisan boutiques, retail shops, wine tasting rooms, restaurants, as well as its wonderfully artistic and creative community.

“We are entering our sixth year, with many exciting plans for the upcoming season, June-August 2019,” said ArtWalk founder Cynthia Levesque. “This event increases awareness, appreciation and participation in the arts in our local community.”

Participating downtown businesses feature local artists, and they host a reception and open house every First Friday evening starting June 7.

“With our recent designation as a Cultural District by the California Arts Council, we have tremendous potential for this season to be more successful than ever,” said Levesque.

ENVIRONMENT AND EXPLORATION
LeeAnn Brook Fine Art features the atmospheric encaustic paintings and ceramic sculptures of award-winning, multi-disciplinary artist Deborah Bridges in May.

This inaugural show, titled “Environment and Exploration,” includes Bridges’ new series of ceramic sculptures of women as a feminine archetype, including 5-foot-tall garden sculptures.

The show runs May 1-31 at LeeAnn Brook Fine Art which is housed in a restored brick building at 231 Broad Street in historic downtown Nevada City. The gallery is open daily from 12-5 p.m., and on Saturdays at 11 a.m.

THE COLOR OF WATER
In June, LeeAnn Brook Fine Art presents an exhibit featuring the photography of Frank Francis, titled “The Color of Water.” The opening reception is June 7 at 5 p.m., coinciding with the First Friday ArtWalk.
