InConcert Sierra: from orchestral favorites to pianist Alessio Bax

INCONCERT SIERRA HAS BEEN INNOVATING since it began in 1946. The group has traveled many paths—from a community concerts program, to a large series of concerts, to a small chamber ensemble presenter. Four years ago, Twin Cities Concert Association’s name became InConcert Sierra.

All of the various incarnations have helped this venerable organization evolve into one of the foothills’ most popular performing arts groups.

Now along with its other musical programs, InConcert Sierra is offering a concert featuring its own 48-piece orchestra—a favorite of many classical music enthusiasts. “We’ve been doing this with the Sierra Master Chorale since 2009, but this is the second time we’ve featured our orchestra in a solo performance,” says Maestro Ken Hardin.

Hardin took requests and has created a program of orchestral greatest hits for a program on September 21. The favorites include Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, Flight of the Bumblebee by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, and some of the five movements of Greig’s Holberg Suite. “It shows off the string section,” says Hardin of Greig’s famous composition.

InConcert Sierra presents the Israeli Chamber Project on October 19. It features top young performers who are winners of prestigious international competitions. A dynamic ensemble comprised of strings, winds, and piano, the Israeli Chamber Project is renowned for its passionate musicianship, creative programming, and commitment to education.

Alessio Bax: World Famous Pianist
InConcert Sierra has brought world-renowned pianists Emanuel Ax, Garrick Ohlsson and Nikolaî Lugansky to the foothills. Now it presents Italian classic pianist Alessio Bax on March 31 in Grass Valley.

Bax is a Steinway Artist. He has given recitals in Rome, Paris, London, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Hong Kong, New York, Washington and Mexico City.

In 2013 Bax received the Martin E. Segal Award from Lincoln Center, and the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award.

In addition to being a pianist, Bax also writes about music and food on his blog, Have Piano, Will Travel and enjoys traveling.
