Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival: Romeo & Juliet, The Fantasticks

11692610_10153505828797948_1072939727645897745_nTHE LAKE TAHOE SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, a premiere summer event in the Tahoe region, is launching an expanded season under the stars from July 10-August 23 at Sand Harbor State Park. It will feature two main stage productions: Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy Romeo and Juliet, as well as the longest running musical, The Fantasticks.

A multi-event Monday Night Showcase and new Summer Encore Showcase will compliment the Festival’s 2015 Main Stage productions, offering a diverse array of live music and entertainment from a variety of genres. Monday Night Showcase performances run from July 20–August 17, and Summer Encore Showcase performances are from August 27–September 12.

“We are elated to satisfy the artistic hunger of our audience for more world-class theater productions under the stars on the shores of Lake Tahoe,” says Producing Artistic Director Charles Fee. “Our ability to produce this expanded, two-show season is a testament to our community’s support of arts and culture at Lake Tahoe.”

Fee will direct Romeo and Juliet. Victoria Bussert will direct The Fantasticks (book and lyrics by Tom Jones; music by Harvey Schmidt). The productions are being performed in rotating reper- tory by a single company of actors Tuesdays-Sundays at 7:30 p.m.

William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, a powerfully poetic tale of love and loss, is the greatest love story ever told. The Fantasticks is a charming and romantic musical about one young couple, two “feuding” fathers, and an infinite love that transcends over time.

The festival’s entertainment experience is complimented by al fresco dining at its on-site restaurant Shakespeare’s Kitchen.
