LeeAnn Brook, Kodo Arts present “Japanese Inspired” May 4-27

KODO ARTS JAPANESE ANTIQUES HOLDS its annual nine-day spring show and sale May 5-13 at its spacious antique warehouse in Nevada City. Earlier this year, Kodo Arts shipped a 40-ft. container from its warehouse in Kyoto, Japan, to Northern California, filled with furniture, home decor, stone lanterns, kimonos and more.

For the first time, Kodo Arts is teaming up with LeeAnn Brook Fine Art to host an imaginative exhibition and sale called “Japanese Inspired” at LeeAnn’s fine art gallery at 300 Spring St. in downtown Nevada City.

“Japanese Inspired” is May 4-27 and includes Japanese contemporary modern ceramics curated from Kodo Arts’ collection, as well as mixed-media paintings by LeeAnn and Japanese calligraphy art by Miyu Tamamura.

The opening reception is May 4, from 5-7 p.m., including an informative talk by Japanese ceramics expert Larry Ortiz.

LeeAnn Brook Fine Art is one of the first artist-owned galleries and on-site studios in Nevada County. It is open Wed.-Sun, 12-5 p.m., or by appointment.

The gallery features LeeAnn’s mixed media paintings, sculpted wood vessels, ceramics, textiles, handblown glass, hand-crafted furniture and Japanese antiques.

Visitors can see LeeAnn’s paintings in progress and discuss the art with the artist firsthand. Some other events at LeeAnn’s gallery this spring are:

APRIL 1-29 “WHERE ON EARTH”

A month-long show celebrating Earth Day, featuring contemporary nature-inspired art by over 10 artists including LeeAnn’s paintings, sculpted wooden vessels by artist Mike Snegg, homemade baskets from local plant materials, and hand-felted luminaries.

JUNE 1-30 “ORIGINS”

Contemporary mixed media paintings inspired by the Southwestern landscape by LeeAnn Brook, and Snegg’s new large-scale wooden vessels. An opening reception on June 1, from 5-8 p.m., coincides with Nevada City’s First Friday Artwalk.
