U.S. Cultural Districts map
Cultural districts are defined as well-recognized, labeled areas of a city in which a high concentration of cultural facilities and programs serve as the main anchor of attraction, according to Americans for the Arts.
They help strengthen local economies, create an enhanced sense of place, and deepen local cultural capacity.
State cultural districts encourage arts-based economic development and community revitalization in multiple areas across a state. These districts may provide state incen- tives, financial or otherwise, to encourage further cultural, community, and economic development.
The California Cultural Districts program aims to assist Californians in leveraging the state’s considerable assets in the areas of culture, creativity, and diversity, as initially set out in the enabling legislation, AB 189.
