Stella restaurant in Truckee features a “Culinary Tour de France” on May 10 and June 14

TRUCKEE IS KNOWN FOR ITS year-round outdoor activities. But it also is becoming a popular foodie destination, with menus that hold their own in any food-obsessed city.

Restaurant Trokay received a four-star review in the Sacramento Bee. More modest restaurants have recently opened, such as Marg’s Taco Bistro, Morgan’s Lobster Shack & Fish Market and Spice, an Indian-influenced restaurant.

Nowhere is Truckee’s budding food scene more visible than at Stella Restaurant at the Cedar House Sport Hotel, which has a loyal local, Bay Area and Reno following.

For the second straight year, U.S. News & World Report named the Cedar House Sport Hotel to the list of best hotels in Lake Tahoe. It ranked second out of 45 Lake Tahoe hotels.

The Cedar House attracts both outdoor and culinary enthusiasts. Stella is run by Jacob Burton, who has been honored in Food & Wine magazine.

Burton is one of the most innovative chefs in our region. His menu is imaginative and he uses fresh, seasonal ingredients. Chef Jacob is a popular “You Tube” chef who has created his own online culinary cooking school. He also hosts popular lunch-lecture series.

This spring Chef Jacob is launching a lunch-lecture series called a “Culinary Tour de France.” “The cooking techniques perfected by the French are a driving force in western cuisine,” he says.

The series focuses on techniques, influences and food culture. Each session includes dishes and wine pairings that showcase the unique nature of the region.

•May 10 Western France Normandy, Brittany, Loire Valley, Poitou-Charentes
