Truckee’s new Indian restaurant – Spice

A new Indian restaurant called Spice has opened in Truckee, rounding out the culinary offerings in town just in time for the busy ski season.

The restaurant and retail space features tasty inexpensive Indian cuisine with sauces, chutneys, breads for retail sale as well, according to its owners. It attempts to source all its products locally.

The food styles include Himalayan-Nepalese, Indian-Pakistani and vegetarian.

“Spice is Truckee’s new adventure in tasty food – Naan, Samosa, Roti, Vindaloo, Pakora, Tikka Masala,” according to its owners.

It is located at 11421 Deerfield Drive — in the SaveMart Plaza just off the intersection of I-80 and 89 South. The restaurant is just 10 minutes north of Squaw ski area.

Truckee has been growing as a foodie destination, as we’ve reported previously. Examples are here and here.

Despite the likes of DragonFly on Commercial Row, Drunken Monkey Sushi on Brockway Road or Red Truck at the Tahoe Truckee Airport, Truckee has been in need of more Indian and ethnic food restaurants.

As a result, we’re pleased to welcome Spice to town. We’ll review the restaurant soon after it opens.
