Artist profile: LeeAnn Brook

LEEANN BROOK HAS BEEN AN ACCOMPLISHED painter for more than 40 years. This year, she also is celebrating the 35th anniversary of her graphic design business, Brook Design Group in Nevada City, and the 8th anniversary of her greeting card business.

With an early interest in photography and painting, LeeAnn sold her work and received awards throughout New England, and at the age of 20, had her first one-woman show.

She is an honors graduate of the prestigious Paier School of Art in Connecticut. Before moving to California in 1975, she was accepted into the Connecticut Society of Women Painters and had earned more than 15 awards in juried shows throughout New York and New England.

LeeAnn has shown her fine artwork in and out of the foothills for the past eight years, with more than 30 of her own shows. She has been on the western Nevada County Open Studios Tour every year.

LeeAnn also was a recipient of an Award of Merit from the California State Fair in 2008.

Her artwork focuses on large contemporary paintings, specializing in landscape, floral and abstracts. “I use rich colors and unusual textures that are interpretive of nature,” she says.

Her medium is acrylic on canvas or heavy-duty watercolor paper, and her average piece is at least 36 inches. LeeAnn also is a guest speaker and judge for art shows and holds painting workshops twice a year.

LeeAnn started Brook Design Group long before computer graphics dominated the profession. She has done graphic design work for more than 1,500 businesses in Nevada County, as well as nationwide.

LeeAnn started her greeting card business, Brook Design Series, in 2003. “The cards feature my design, photography and art on over 100 different cards,” she says. “The series include the Yuba River, Gold Country architecture, holiday and my fine art paintings.”
