Foothills Event Center: An elegant, new venue

OUR REGION HAS SOME EXQUISITE places for wedding receptions, anniversaries, reunions and other gatherings. The choices range from historic Miners Foundry and Empire Mine to hotels, inns, private estates and restaurants all around Grass Valley, Nevada City and Auburn. More are being planned, such as renovating historic North Star House.

The Foothills Event Center is Nevada County’s newest upscale venue. It offers an elegant experience, coupled with modern amenities (from ambient music to climate control and high-speed internet) and ample parking (yes, valet) and easy access from Hwy. 49 in Grass Valley.

“It’s a wonderful venue that we think a lot of people will come to from out of the area and really enjoy,” says owner Mardie Caldwell. “We’ve put a lot of heart, soul and time into it, and wanted to create this experience for people to enjoy our county.”

The Foothills Event Center can host all kinds of events: holiday parties, wedding and anniversaries, dinner theater, outdoor shows, themed dinners, business meetings, fundraisers, car shows, art shows and concerts, Mardie adds. The Event Center can seat up to 320 people for a sit-down dinner and up to 685 people for cocktails or a concert. The patio seats 100 people. It has parking for 140 cars, as well as bus parking. The space is ADA compliant.

On a recent visit to the Event Center we were struck by the elegant decor, high ceilings, comfortable conversation areas, and a spacious bar area, among other features. It is rich in detail, such as the Chiavari chairs—comfortable but elegant. (The Chiavari design is used for entertaining in the White House).

The indoor space, which can be adjusted to the size of the gathering, also flows into an outdoor area with a covered patio. A custom stage features lighting and a sound system. It also has a prep area for catering. “We’re starting to get a lot of interest and bookings,” Mardie says.
