Nevada City, Grass Valley and Tahoe for Father’s Day Festivities

NEVADA CITY BICYCLE CLASSIC
One of America’s top cycling events celebrates its 55th anniversary this year, and many of the nation’s top cyclists are going to be on hand.

The 55th Annual Nevada City Bicycle Classic is on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21, in historic downtown Nevada City. For the first time, ol’ Republic Brewery, the town’s thriving craft brewery, is a chief sponsor of the iconic race.

The Nevada City Bicycle Classic is one of the premiere sporting events in the foothills, the largest and oldest bike race on the West Coast, and the second-oldest bike race in the nation.

Historic Nevada City is draped with flags and bunting, and it provides a colorful backdrop as cyclists whiz through the downtown area, spokes flashing and crowds cheering. Several thousand spectators attend the traditional Father’s Day event.

Senior and professional riders representing top U.S. cycling teams are expected to race in the men’s 90-minute main event. Women’s, junior’s and master’s races also are planned. Action begins at 1 p.m. and is usually complete by about 6:30 p.m. Nevada City, a host city for the Amgen Tour of California, also will celebrate National Bike Month in May.

TAHOE CITY SOLSTICE FESTIVAL
Lake Tahoe residents and visitors know summertime has arrived with the beginning of the Tahoe City Solstice Festival, one of Tahoe City Downtown Association’s signature annual events.

The Solstice Festival, June 18-21, may be the best place to celebrate Father’s Day at the lake. “Join us in the heart of Tahoe City to celebrate the beginning of summer. The Thursday Farmers Market, Solstice Stroll Classic Car Show, Tahoe City Wine Walk and Sunday’s concert are annual Solstice Festival highlights,” says Stacie Lyans, Tahoe City Downtown Assn.’s Executive Director.

Starting June 21 Commons Beach is the place to be on Sunday afternoons on the shores of Tahoe. Bring a picnic and sit on the lawn or enjoy food from local vendors. For details and 2015 lineup, visit ConcertsAtCommonsBeach.com.

NAGGIAR WINEFEST
Naggiar’s annual Winefest, a celebration of wine, food and music, will include a country music concert on Father’s Day, featuring Robbie James & The Streets of Bakersfield.

CALIFORNIA BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL
The 40th annual California Bluegrass Association’s Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival is at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. The four-day festival begins Thursday, June 18 and runs through Sunday.
