Studio tours & art walks this summer

OUR REGION’S ARTISTIC TALENT is showcased at open studio tours and art walks. Here are some examples:

TRUCKEE-NORTH TAHOE ARTOUR
July 11-13 and July 18-20
Local artists will open their studios along the shores of Lake Tahoe from Incline Village to Kings Beach, through Tahoe City and on to the West Shore. It’s your chance to get “behind the scenes” and look at how art is created.

From watercolors, pastels, oils and acrylics, glass art and woodworking, to custom jewelry, photography, printmaking, ceramics and mixed media, there’s something for everyone.

Free printed Tour Guides will be available at many local art galleries and retailers throughout the region and at North Tahoe Arts in Tahoe City.

SUMMER NIGHTS IN NEVADA CITY
July 16, 23 and 30

The annual Summer Nights in Nevada City celebration, an outdoor festival of art and music, will be held three Wednesday evenings, July 16, 23, and 30, in this colorful Northern Sierra foothills town.

During Summer Nights, Nevada City’s landmark historic district is closed to motorized traffic and filled with arts, crafts, classic cars, food, drink and music. Leading Sierra foothills musicians perform on outdoor stages throughout the downtown area. Hours are 6-9:30 p.m. Admission is free.

AUBURN ART WALK
August 14
A reception to showcase the artists who display their work in participating businesses. It is presented by PlacerArts to promote cultural tourism. It occurs on the second Thursday of April, June, August and October from 6–9 p.m. in Downtown and Old Town Auburn.

COLFAX ART WALK
July 11, August 8 and September 12
An opportunity for art enthusiasts and those simply looking for a pleasant evening out to wander from venue to venue (mer- chants and eateries), clearly marked by red “Colfax Art Walk” signs, to view the artwork from 3-8 p.m. The artists are on hand to discuss their work.

The Art Walk is a free public event that happens every second Friday of the month, May through October, in the historic Main Street district of Colfax.

NEVADA CITY FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK
July 11, August 1 and September 5
A celebration of the town’s diverse mix of galleries, artisan boutiques, retail shops, wine tasting rooms, restaurants, as well as our wonderfully artistic and creative community. Participating downtown businesses will be open from 5-9 p.m. and many will host re- ceptions with local artists, trunk shows or performances. Many shops are also offering snacks and beverages as well as sales and specials only valid for the event.

FALL COLORS OPEN STUDIO TOUR OF NEVADA COUNTY
October 4-5 and 11-12
You can tour more than 30 studios of more than 60 local artists and see where art is made, displayed and enjoyed in Nevada County. Start at The Center for the Arts’ pre- view exhibit and view each artists’ work in person.

View and purchase original work in a wide variety of media and styles, watch live demonstrations, observe works in progress, and learn about an art process from concept to completion and experience first-hand how, why and where art is created.

Also visit Grass Valley and Nevada City’s farmers markets, local restaurants, downtown tasting rooms, vintage and curated shops, scenic hikes and the live music at The Center to see what inspires creativity, community-mindedness and artistic expression that resonates through our towns.
