Truckee Dream Home

THE HGTV DREAM HOME IS HOME & Garden Television’s annual project house and sweepstakes, held since 1996. Past locations have included towns in Florida, New Mexico and Colorado.

The 2014 Dream Home is in Truckee, a coup for the Sierra mountain town. The 3,200-sq.-ft. home is in Schaffer’s Mill, set in the Martis Valley between Truckee and Lake Tahoe.

Amenities include an 18-hole championship golf course, walking trails, access to the Tahoe National Forest and skiing at North- star and other resorts. In the 1870s, Schaffer’s Mill, named after Truckee “father” George Schaffer, helped supply lumber for Sacramento and San Francisco and the first transcontinental railroad.

The Dream Home blends traditional and contemporary forms. It was designed by Truckee-based Ward-Young Architects and built by Tanamera Builders.

The home includes work from local artists, including Elizabeth Carmel of Truckee, often featured in our magazine.

You can tour the home through February 14. Ticket proceeds will benefit the Tahoe Forest Health System Foundation.

You can also enter to win the Dream Home through February 14. The 2013 Dream Home giveaway drew more than 77 million entries.
