Wild & Scenic Film Festival is January 14-18

Now in its 14th year, SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival on January 14-18 informs, inspires and ignites solutions to “change our course.” Each year, the Wild & Scenic Film Festival draws top filmmakers, celebrities, leading activists, social innovators and well-known world adventurers to the historic downtown areas of Nevada City and Grass Valley.

This year’s theme is “A Change of Course.” “This theme was chosen because issues surrounding water are timely and warrant special attention,” says Festival Director Melinda Booth. “We see a need for change in the fundamental ways we interact with our environment.”

Festival-goers can expect to see award winning films about nature, community activism, adventure, conservation, water, energy and climate change, wildlife, environmental justice, agriculture, Native American and indigenous cultures.

Film locations are spread across Nevada City and Grass Valley. A shuttle runs between the two cities—and it’s free to all ticket holders.

Additional highlights include engaging speakers, an activist center, art show, gala event, awards ceremony, block party, late night music and dancing, and children’s films.

The nominating committee spends more than 1,250 hours reviewing more than 400 films. About 115 films are featured. The annual event each January kicks off the worldwide tour to over 150 cities.
