Sierra BrewFest draws from all over

CRAFT BEER ENTHUSIASTS gather at the Nevada County Fairgrounds August 23 for the 25th annual Sierra BrewFest, one of the oldest continuously running brewfests in California.

This year’s event will feature more than 100 hand-crafted beers from popular microbreweries, such as ol’ Republic Brewery, Auburn Alehouse, Out of Bounds Brewing Co. and Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., just to name a few.

Enjoy yourself at the most beautiful fairgrounds in California, surrounded by tall pines. This microbrew tasting experience includes unlimited beer tastings, games and delicious food from popular food trucks and local restaurants. Where else can you taste delicious beer while enjoying barbequed oysters or fresh sushi?

This year marks the second Bag-O games tournament, also known as baggo or bean bag toss. Gather a team of friends to compete in the friendly tournament, where you can win tickets to the 2015 Sierra BrewFest. Start practicing and sign up at the event.

This year’s BrewFest also features blues, soul and rock-n-roll from the popular Jamal Walker Band. This summer the band also is playing at Downtown Tuesday Nights in Roseville, the Nevada County Fair and the Thursday Night Market in Grass Valley.

Proceeds from the BrewFest benefit Music in the Mountains and help them bring music to the community and the schools.

Craft Beer Sales benefit Empire Mine
Since May, Anchor California Lager has been available in six-pack cans and a portion of the proceeds are going toward Empire Mine State Historic Park in Grass Valley.

The little-known program stems from a partnership between San Francisco-based Anchor Brewing Co., the California State Parks Foundation and National Parks Conservation Association.

The grant will allow Empire Mine to digitize interviews with former miners and supervisors that captured some of the history of the mines operations, and they will be readily available to the public.
