Land Trust launches summer jazz concerts at North Star House

Bear Yuba Land Trust (BYLT) announces a lineup of stellar jazz musicians to perform in a series of outdoor summer concerts on the lawn at the beautiful North Star House for the 14th Annual Stars Benefit Concert.

The Land Trust will host a series of three Sunday afternoon concerts at the historic North Star House featuring some of jazz music’s greatest stars and local talent. The Stars at North Star House Jazz Series will kick off Sunday, July 27, with internationally celebrated contemporary jazz pianist and composer David Benoit.

Local favorites, The Sierra-5 from the Sierra Jazz Society will perform blues jazz on Sunday, August 24, followed by Poncho Sanchez and his Latin Jazz Band who will bring the series to a fiery conclusion on Sunday, September 28.

“We’re delighted to offer a variety of Jazz artists to our community with something for everyone including contemporary cool jazz in July, a blues jazz dance party in August, and the hottest Latin jazz there is in September,” said Marty Coleman-Hunt, BYLT’s Executive Director.

“Once again this event will showcase the grandeur of the North Star House for our largest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds will support continuing land conservation, trail building and outdoor programs in our community,” Coleman-Hunt said.

The July 27 kick off concert with Grammy Award nominee David Benoit will include BYLT’s popular Gala Dinner – a gourmet meal masterfully prepared by Emily’s Catering and Cakes. A beautiful and intimate Gala reception and dinner with exquisite food and drink begins at 4 p.m.

During all three jazz concerts, Land Trust supporters can choose from the finest quality art, jewelry, vacation trips, practical goods and services during an auction. A variety of food vendors will be available during the event for general admission ticket holders along with a bar serving wine and beer.

Groups who desire to “upscale” their picnics during the August and September concerts, can pre-arrange rental of tables for eight, $80, and pre-order boxed picnic dinners for $20. Local favorites Christopher’s Deli will provide a boxed picnic dinner for the August 24 concert and caterer Antonio Ayestaran Custom Catering will prepare a Latin-themed box dinner for the Poncho Sanchez concert. For those not sitting at tables, it is advised to bring low-back chairs for lawn seating. Gates for general admission open at 5 p.m.

Cost:
General admission tickets: $45 BYLT members, $55 not-yet-members
July 27 Gala tickets (dinner and concert): $100 BYLT members, $110 not-yet-members

Tickets are limited for all events and will be available for purchase beginning May 1 for Bear Yuba Land Trust members and May 15 for not-yet-members at: www.bylt.org.
