Music in the Mountains energizing holiday concerts on December 13-14

DECK THE HALLS, TURN ON THE TWINKLING LIGHTS and let the music take control. Music in the Mountains presents energized annual holiday concerts on Saturday, December 13, and Sunday, December 14, at the Amaral Center at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.

This year’s concert is titled “Music in the Mountains Holiday Pops— Celebrate the Magic.” It includes the music of Mannheim Steamroller, known for its modern recordings of Yuletide favorites, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra, famous for its rock versions of holiday tunes. For traditionalists, the concert also includes all the holiday favorites.

“We wanted to turbo-charge the holiday concerts this year with some fantastic crossover classics from the symphonic rock traditions of Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Mannheim Steamroller,” says Cristine Kelly, MIM’s executive director. “Don’t be surprised to see some guitars on stage. We hope the audience loves it.”

The concert begins with Choral Director Ryan Murray leading the MIM Festival Chorale accompanied by a 28-piece chamber orchestra.

On Saturday morning, MIM continues a new tradition with its special Children’s Holiday Concert. This shorter, lighter concert is sure to delight, with a visit from a special guest in a red suit.

HOLIDAY PROGRAMS

We are excited that the acclaimed holiday music of Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Mannheim Steamroller is coming to the foothills—performed by Music in the Mountains. It will be a “lighter” version for traditionalists, but this kind of programming shows continued innovation by our region’s performing arts nonprofits.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra is known for their elaborate concerts, which include a string section, a light show and effects synchronized to music. Their debut album, released in 1996, was a rock opera called Christmas Eve and Other Stories. It contained the song Christmas Eve-Sarajevo 12/24.

Mannheim Steamroller is known for its albums that blend classical music and rock, and for its modern recordings of Christmas Music. Steamroller has become one of the most requested Christmas music artists of all time. The group has appeared in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.”
