Nevada City’s ol’ Republic Brewery and Three Forks Bakery & Brewing Co. win major honors in State Fair craft beer competition

Ol’ Republic Brewery of Nevada City won a first place “best of show” award in the 2016 California State Fair commercial craft brew competition for its Dead Canary, a Dortmunder / Export Lager style beer. The brewery’s Dead Canary beer also won first place in the “light lager” category.

In addition, Three Forks Bakery and Brewing Co. in Nevada City won a first place award in the Imperial IPA category for its Dynamite Double IPA.

The awards are a major coup for the two Nevada City craft breweries, featured regularly in our magazine. There were 1204 entries judged and 301 registered participants, judges, and stewards.

Other local winners included Knee Deep Brewing Co. in Auburn. It won third place in the “stout” category for Imperial Tanilla. Knee Deep also won third place in the “Spice/Herb/Vegetable” category for its “Stoutella” beer.

Out of Bounds Brewing Co. in Rocklin won a second place award in the “barrel aged” category for its Port Barrel aged Hurly Burly Barleywine.
