Bring your hat and grab your shoes in celebration of fresh grown food throughout Placer County highlighted during PlacerGROWN Week Oct. 8-14, 2012.

The Placer County Board of Supervisors supported PlacerGROWN Week with a Proclamation approved at the September 25th Board meeting officially recognizing Oct. 8-14, 2012 as “Celebrate PlacerGROWN Week” in Placer County.

PlacerGROWN Week highlights the products grown by local farmers and ranchers with fun and fresh activities and an opportunity for the public to experience firsthand the taste and smell of locally grown goods.

The week kicks off with a Farmer’s Market at the Fountains in Roseville on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. The celebration continues into the weekend with the Auburn Wine & Food Festival Saturday, Oct. 13, 1 – 6 p.m. in Downtown and Old Town Auburn.

The week concludes Sunday, Oct. 14 with a free Farm & Barn Open House self-guided tour from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Each venue will feature varied activities, locally grown fruits and vegetables, farming demonstrations, barnyard animals, equipment displays, wine tasting, local artists and fun for the whole family.

PlacerGROWN is a local organization dedicated to connecting local farmers and ranchers with community members to provide them the opportunity to purchase the freshest agricultural products available in the region.

Placer County’s local agriculture production contributes $65 million in gross sales to the local economy. The local agriculture industry relies on direct sales of their products to consumers to remain economically vibrant.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to see what’s growing in Placer County and participate in the PlacerGROWN Week activities.
