MEREDITH WILLSON’S “THE MUSIC MAN”
Sierra Stages Presents Classic American Musical And Valentine to Small-Town America This Summer in Nevada City

O-Ho, the Wells Fargo Wagon is a-comin to Nevada County this summer. And it’s closely followed by 76 trombones, horns of every shape and size, double bell euphoniums and big bassoons, and a score of classic Broadway songs, as Sierra Stages presents one of the greatest and most beloved American musicals of all time – Meredith Willson’s “The Music Man”—playing for four weekends only from July 12 through August 4, 2012 at the historic Nevada Theatre in Nevada City.

Friends, River City has Trouble with a capital T. And just in the nick of time, Harold Hill arrives in town and proposes the solution: Form a boys’ band with sparkling instruments and brand new band uniforms! In the process, this music man transforms the town, and at the same time, he transforms himself into an honest man. “The Music Man” is truly a celebration of community and a valentine to small-town America.

The show features such classic Broadway songs as “76 Trombones”, “Ya Got Trouble”, “Marian the Librarian”, “My White Knight”, “Till There Was You” and many, many more. The show is directed by Jeffrey Mason, with dance direction by George Jayne and musical direction by Ken Getz, who will also conduct the 14-piece orchestra. The set design is by Pamela Mengers Hodges, costume design is by Sharon Olson and lighting design is by Zac Cahoon.

This Sierra Stages production of “The Music Man” features a large cast of local actors, headed by Erick Lindley as “Professor” Harold Hill and Dawn Simmons as Marian. The supporting cast, which ranges from age six to age sixty (plus), includes Trish Adair, Noreen Barnett, Amber Busse, Luci Gardiner, Maddie Gardiner, Nancy Haffey, Sarah LaPlante, Sunny Ostrom, Emily Rice, Kim Wellman, Chris Whitlock, Ellie Wyman, Isaias Acosta, Ty Baldwin, Harris Banneck, Kevin Kirkpatrick, Charles Landau, JR
Lewis, Ken Miele, Conor Nolan, Jordan Thomas-Rose, Cap Wallington, Jonathan Willis, and a dozen of Nevada County’s best and brightest eight- to twelve-year-olds who will come together as River City’s first ever boys’ marching band.

“The Music Man” begins on July 12 and continues for four weekends through August 4. Performances are Thursdays at 7 PM, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 2 PM. The first two performances, Thursday July 12 and Friday July 13, are “previews” and general admission tickets are only $15. For all other performances, general admission tickets are available at the reduced price of only $20 if purchased before July 14. After that, general admission tickets will be $25 for all performances. In addition, Sierra Stages is pleased to offer reserved seating for $35.
