Tahoe Maritime Museum closes escrow on its future home in Tahoe City

Tahoe Maritime Museum is pleased to announce the purchase of the Museum’s new property in Tahoe City. On October 15, TMM officially closed escrow on the Tahoe Tree Company property located at the corner of West Lake Boulevard and Granlibakken Road. The Log Lodge and the adjoining ten acre property will be the future home of the Tahoe Maritime Museum campus.

Contractors have already started making minor modifications to the Log Lodge to prepare the building for the Museum’s relocation this fall. Our plan is to move the Museum offices in the coming month and set up a new temporary exhibit for the winter in the main gallery space.

The exhibit will showcase the diverse range of the Museum’s Collection. The new building and exhibit will be open to the public by Thanksgiving. We will be keeping our current exhibition, Racing Tahoe, installed in our Homewood building. It will be available to the public for viewing on the weekends through April 1, 2016.

Purchasing the Tahoe City property has been the first step towards the Museum’s long term plan of establishing a Museum campus which will ultimately include in addition to the Log Lodge, a gallery building, boat shop, collection storage facility, and maritime sculptural gardens.

Preliminary renderings of the new buildings and site plan have been developed, but will go through full review through the winter along with plans for a capital campaign. The build out of the Museum campus will commence in the coming years.

Tahoe Maritime Museum is excited to continue working with the great businesses that have called 401 West Lake Blvd. home for many years. Green Envy Landscaping, McBride’s Landscaping, Mountain Magic Catering, and Tahoe Tree Company will all be remaining onsite and are  open for business.

Please check Tahoe Maritime Museum’s website, tahoemaritimemuseum.org, to stay current with the Museum’s visitation hours at both locations in Tahoe City and Homewood. Follow us on Facebook, as we post updates and photos of the new property taking shape as the Museum over the coming month.
