From the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival —

The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival has chosen Shakespeare’s comedy, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, as the headlining production of its 40th anniversary season . Tickets are now on sale for this year’s Festival that will be held July 13 through August 26, 2012 at Sand Harbor State Park on the beach at Lake Tahoe’s north shore.

Producing Artistic Director, Charles Fee will direct Shakespeare’s romantic-comedy which will include live, onstage music as an exciting underscore to the play. “ The Two Gentlemen of Verona is a favorite of mine,” said Fee, “In Two Gents Shakespeare is exploring, perhaps for the first time, all of the themes of love, friendship, betrayal, and coming of age that will mark his works for the rest of his life. It is a deeply romantic and absurdly funny play.”

The Two Gentlemen of Verona will perform Tuesday through Sunday evenings. Free parking at Sand Harbor for Festival guests begins at 5:00 pm and gates open for seating and dining at Shakespeare’s Kitchen at 5:30 pm. All performances begin at 7:30 pm. The Monday Showcase Series begins July 16 and concludes August 20th . The complete Monday Showcase Series lineup will be announced in the spring of 2012. “Our Monday Showcase Series is the perfect compliment to our Shakespeare season as it provides audiences with an incredible range of music and other events in the majestic setting of Sand Harbor State Park,” according to Fee.

Two new sections that have been added to the amphitheatre’s seating charts. Cabaret Table Seating will offer café style tables with seating for four in comfortable chairs located in the popular Premium seating area. The new table seating section will be available for purchase beginning in spring 2012. Cabaret Table Seating will offer all of the fine amenities that are available in the Premium section which include an excellent view of the entire stage, personal wait service and dinner with a selection of gourmet meals, desserts and beverages. The Festival has also created a new Side Gallery seating section that is conveniently located just inside the gates and offers one of the most affordable ticket price points .

The Two Gentlemen of Verona tells the story of best friends, Valentine and Proteus, as they leave home and move to the big city to begin their adventure into adulthood. No romantic comedy would be complete without a bit of treachery, a cross-dressing heroine, a band of really scary outlaws and, of course, a dog! In The Two Gentlemen of Verona , Shakespeare gives us all this and more, a story of friendship, betrayal and, ultimately, forgiveness.

The Festival will continue its popular Handling Fee-Free ticketing in 2012. Once again the published price is the real price. No additional handling fees will be added to any ticket purchase. Also back by popular demand is assigned seating in our Lower Gallery section and free beach chair use in our Upper Gallery and new Side Gallery sections.
