Wynonna and Dana Carvey coming to Grass Valley in the New Year!

The Center for The Arts in Grass Valley is planning two big shows early in the New Year — Wynonna and Dana Carvey — Sierra FoodWineArt magazine has learned. Wynonna further cements The Center’s ability to land prominent Country Western stars, while Carvey will help kick off a comedy series. Watch for more top-notch comedy talent. (We enjoyed seeing Will Durst at The Center earlier this year). An official announcement is expected Saturday:

•Wynonna and The Big Noise are coming to the Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium in Grass Valley on Friday, February 22.

Wynonna’s career has always revolved around telling stories. Whether she’s using her rich, commanding voice to sing one of her countless hits or sitting down for a bold, honest appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Wynonna always gets her point across with unflinching honesty and wisdom gained over the course of her very public life.

A five-time GRAMMY winner, Wynonna is also a New York Times bestselling author thanks to her candid 2005 memoir Coming Home to Myself.

In 1994, Wynonna received the coveted Top Female Vocalist of the Year trophy at the ACM Awards, and Rolling Stone called her “the greatest female country singer since Patsy Cline.”

•Comedian Dana Carvey is coming to the Vet’s Auditorium on Friday, March 15 (on our magazine Editor’s birthday, no less).

Emmy-award winning comedian Dana Carvey has maintained a tremendous career. Carvey was born June 2, 1955, in Missoula, Montana. Dana went on to college at the San Francisco State University where he won the San Francisco Standup Comedy Competition. After his graduation (with a degree in communication arts), he played at numerous clubs in the Bay Area and then moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career.

A repertory member of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE since the 1986-87 season, Carvey left in 1992 after seven seasons. Carvey is best known for his characters the Church Lady; Hans, of the Hans and Franz bodybuilding duo; Garth, Wayne Campbell’s (Mike Myers) “Excellent Cohost” on the immensely popular sketch “Wayne’s World,” and Weekend Update’s Grumpy Old Man.

In addition to these characters, Dana has received widespread praise for his uncanny and exaggerated comedic impersonations of such political figures as Ex-President George Bush, H. Ross Perot, Jerry Brown, David Duke and Bob Dole. He also does impersonations of George Burns, Johnny Carson, Jimmy Stewart, John McLaughlin, Mickey Rooney, Casey Casem and Regis Philbin.

The Center will be offering a comedy series this year.

The tickets will go on sale to members and available online on Monday, November 26.
