DVSAC celebrates 35 years with a gala on November 8

The Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Coalition (DVSAC) is honored to celebrate 35 years of service to western Nevada County. On November 8th the celebration begins!

The group is hosting a “35 years and Rising” gala to celebrate its journey and to raise funds for the new frontier. The gala event kicks off on Friday, November 8, 5:30 p.m., at the Miners Foundry in Nevada City.

DVSAC invites the community to join them for a wonder filled evening of dinner, music, dancing and live auction. An auction will feature unique gifts and custom works of art designed for the occasion, with “Peace” in mind.

The auction will also include two-night get-away(s), an airplane ride , a train ride to Reno and more! DVSAC salutes all of our community Partners in Peace who are contributing to make the evening festive, featuring appetizers and dinner catered by Kane’s and music by Paul Ong and DJ DLT (Tony de la Torre).

DVSAC’s ROLE

DVSAC is paying tribute to all those who came before us, so if you were part of the DVSAC story or journey from 1978 to the present, whether legacy board member, executive director, volunteer, staff or community member, we invite you back. Please join us on Friday, November 8th.

For more than 35 years DVSAC has been the primary emergency services provider to families escaping interpersonal violence. Founded by the Quakers in 1978, the group has grown from a network of safe homes to a comprehensive service center and shelter providing more than 1700 bed nights annually in addition to emergency food and clothing.

Last year DVSAC served 505 domestic violence victims and 216 sexual assault victims by providing life-altering therapy and peer support services. DVSAC staff and volunteers provide the only local 24 hour crisis line for victims, taking 1987 unduplicated crisis calls and helping with over 133 restraining orders yearly.

DVSAC also strives to prevent abuse before it ever happens. Last year they facilitated 40 (10 week) groups at local area high schools. This year they want to continue to work with our youth, but also engage our men and boys in partnering with us to stop the violence.

They will be working with Nevada Union High School on a new evidenced based program, “Coaching Boys to Men,” which is designed for coaches and athletes. At DVSAC, they feel it is critical to both intervene at the time of crisis and engage in active programs to prevent the abuse from occurring.

To create safer tomorrows they will need the community’s support. DVSAC is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, audited annually and meets state and federal grant and fiscal requirements. When you give to DVSAC you can be assured that your gift benefits our local community.
