Fawnridge Winery and Douglas Van Howd create wine label for “Triple Ace” statue

Fawnridge Winery, Auburn sculptor Douglas Van Howd and World War II “triple ace” Bud Anderson are on a new wine label to help raise money for a statue honoring the local aviation hero.

Anderson is a longtime Auburn resident who grew up in Newcastle. Organizers also hope the statue will increase visits to the airport from people who want to view the statue.

Anderson, 91, is credited with shooting down more than 16 enemy planes while flying a P-51 Mustang in Europe during World War II.

Van Howd is the creator of this life-size monument. His studio and gallery are located by the Auburn Municipal Airport.

Fawnridge Winery is owned and operated by Stewart & Stephanie Perry. The labels are on a 2011 Chardonnay called “Triple Ace” and a 2008 Syrah called “Old Crow Red.”
