Nevada County Arts & Culture this summer

NEVADA COUNTY HAS THE MOST ARTISTS per capita than anywhere else in California. Throughout the year there is a constant stream of art—at concerts, film festivals and dance performances; on studio tours; and in galleries and theaters.

July 14-Aug. 7 A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Sierra Stages presents one of the funniest musical comedies of all time at the Nevada Theatre in Nevada City. 346-3210 SierraStages.org

July 15 Children’s Festival. Pioneer Park, Nevada City. The park is transformed into a lively Renaissance Fair for children.

Until Aug. 31 Beneath the Surface: A Show of New Work by LeeAnn Brook. Paintings by Nevada City artist and designer LeeAnn Brook, featuring large format, nature-inspired contemporary works at Judi’s of Nevada City.

Oct. 6-22 The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Sierra Stages presents a hilarious tale of overachievers’ angst at Miners Foundry, Nevada City.

Draft Horse Classic

Draft horses, once used to plow fields and now Budweiser beer, will delight spectators at the 25th Annual Draft Horse Classic & Harvest Fair on Sept. 22-25.

The Draft Horse Classic at the Nevada County Fairground in Grass Valley is the nation’s premier show of its kind. The horses dazzle fans with their pageantry, elegance and strength.

“Taste of the Gold” will once again be held on Saturday of the Classic, featuring food and wine from some of the area’s finest restaurants and wineries.
