Naggiar: Winefest & Bistro Food

FOR A MEMORABLE SIERRA VINTNERS’ wine tour, spend an afternoon or evening at Naggiar Vineyards, one of the most spectacular destination wineries on the “road less traveled.”

The winery, set amid rolling foothills and oak trees, is located between Auburn and Grass Valley off historic Hwy. 49.

The Tuscan-inspired tasting room overlooks 60 acres of vineyard. “Great wines, beautiful setting and wonderful owners and staff,” as one visitor put it.

This summer and spring, Naggiar has been releasing a dozen new wines, all estate grown, including Barbera, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Mourvedre, Muscat Canelli, Petite Sirah, Port Dessert Syrah, Reserve Syrah, Rosé, Sangiovese, Don Giovanni (a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah) and La Contessa Sylvana (Viogner).

Besides its wines, Naggiar is gaining a reputation as a prime entertainment destination. “It starts with the wine, but people are passionate about the music,” says Naggiar co-owner Mike Naggiar.

Now in its fourth season, Naggiar’s Winefest features a summer series blending rock-legend revivals, or “tribute” bands, with excellent wine and food.

Concerts include a Billy Joel tribute (Joel: The Band) and Steely Dan tribute (Steelin’ Dan) on July 27; a Beach Boys tribute (California Beach Boys) and California Dreamin’ on August 31; and an Earth, Wind & Fire tribute (Kalimba Band) and Chicago tribute (Chicago Tribute Authority) on September 28.

Besides its tribute series, Naggiar offers complimentary, live music every Friday and Saturday evening from 6-9 p.m.

A Harvest Festival is set for September 15 with wine and food, live music, and even carriage rides in the vineyard.

This summer Naggiar has further improved the concert setting for its visitors. The awning covered patio seating area was expanded; a new stage area was built by the winery’s pond, with lawn seating; and parking was expanded.

The winery also offers fabulous food at the newly created Naggiar Bistro. The expanded menu includes unique and seasonal items. The Bistro is open Fridays 2-8 p.m., Saturdays noon-8 p.m. and Sundays noon-4 p.m.

Naggiar’s wine is available at many local restaurants and wine shops.
