NCTV launches new social networking site ARTmatters

Nevada County Digital Media Center, which includes Nevada County TV (NCTV 11 &17), is launching a new social networking site called ARTmatters.

I expect it to compliment the other social media and web sites for arts, including Nevada County Arts, as well as the other arts and performing arts nonprofits in our county.

On Wednesday night, as a publisher of Sierra FoodWineArt magazine and a manager of GoNevadaCounty.com, I joined Julie Baker (executive director of Center for the Arts), Jon Blinder (president of Nevada County Arts), Cristine Kelly (ED of Music in the Mountains and NCTV board member) and Judy Nielsen (county schools) for a panel discussion on social media and the arts. We all stressed the importance of collaboration. The taped program will air soon.

“Broadcast is changing, and NCTV is changing with it,” as the site states. “NCTV has become part of the new Nevada County Digital Media Center, where community members of all ages can learn and use new digital pathways for community involvement, self-experssion and job skills development. Art in its many forms is at the heart of digital media and ART matters is your opportunity to express your art form and shre it with the world wide web. Create a page, write a blog, upload videos and photos, share important news, or form a group to discuss your art matters. It’s all at your fingertips!”

The effort stems partly from NCTV’s activities through a grant from the California Arts Council, according to NCTV Executive Director Paul Minicucci.

NCTV is trying to build 12-15 communities of interest using the NING format: food and wine, sports and recreation, cars, business religion, a youth network and a senior network and so on, said Paul. The first NING is the Arts and Cultures site.
