Reno coffee roaster The Hub and nonprofit team up to send artisan coffee to troops overseas

During World War II, Katz’s Delicatessan encouraged parents to “send a salami to your boy in the army,” which became one of the New York deli’s famous catch phrases.

Now a popular coffee roaster from Reno’s hip Midtown District is teaming up with a nonprofit to send artisan coffee to the troops overseas.

For every bag purchased at the The Hub Roasting Company, they will donate two bags to send to troops overseas. The Hub is working with Think Kindness, a Reno nonprofit that “inspires measurable acts of kindness in schools and communities around the world.” The program is dubbed “Coffee 4 Troops.”

“Four years ago Think Kindness sent several hundred pounds of coffee so soldiers from the Reno area fighting in Afghanistan,” its website reads. “Recently, some of those same soldiers got deployed yet again. The moment they landed on base, they were called into the office and asked the question, ‘Do you think Think Kindness can get people to send us more coffee? The coffee here sucks!'”

“The Hub Coffee Roasters is the dream of father and son caffeine addicts Mark and Joey Trujillo; a chance to introduce the biggest little city of Reno, Nevada to the third wave of coffee —the artisinal and culinary side of everyone’s favorite addiction,” according to the coffee roaster.

“From our original coffeehouse located in Reno’s Midtown district, our presence in Reno has grown to include a roastery downtown and a new coffeehouse on Riverside drive in the beautiful Powning District, as well as an impressive line up of cafés, restaurants, and other businesses carrying and preparing our coffee.”

This fall, the Reno News & Review rated The Hub the “best coffee in Reno.”
