Sierra Foothills wineries win big at S.F. Chronicle wine competition

The 2014 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition included winners from Sierra Foothills wineries including Avanguardia, Bent Metal, Ciotti, Le Casque, Montoliva, Naggiar, Popie, Secret Ravine, Solune and Viña Castellano, among others.

Viña Castellano won “best of class,” and Naggiar won two “double golds.” The “Loomis Loop” wineries, which we write about in our magazine, did exceedingly well as a group.

Naggiar won two “double golds,” for its Don Giovanni and reserve Syrah.

Avanguardia won a gold for its “Tre ‘T'”; Bent Metal won a bronze for its Zinfandel; Ciotti Cellars won a gold for its old-vine Zinfandel, a silver for its Syrah; a bronze for its Malbec; and a bronze for its Stowaway blend; Le Casque won a bronze for its Cabernet Sauvignon; a bronze for its Calotte Blanc; and a bronze for its Roussanne.

Montoliva won a bronze for its Aglianico and a bronze for its Sangiovese.

Naggiar also won a silver for its Barbera and a silver for its Sangiovese.

Popie won a silver for its Barbera Rosato; a bronze for its Bianca di Barbera; a bronze for its Dolce di Barbera; a bronze for its Barbera; and a bronze for its Zinfandel.

Secret Ravine won a silver for its Cabernet Franc and a a bronze for its Miner’s Red.

Solune won a silver for its Pandora No. 2 and its Zinfandel; and it won a bronze for its Fleur de Lune and a bronze for its Malbec.

Viña Castellano won a “best of class” for its Tempranillo.
