Tahoe Central Market & Deli: “Farm to You”

FOR 20 YEARS, PRODUCE PLUS HAS SUPPLIED chefs in Tahoe-Truckee with year-round, seasonal produce, includ- ing organic and local fruits and veggies whenever possible.

Owned by the Bob Habeger family of North Lake Tahoe, “Produce Bob’s” customers have included Burger Me, Cottonwood, JAX at the Tracks, Moody’s Bistro Bar & Beats, Pianeta Ristorante, West Shore Café, Wolfdale’s and others.

Now the family has opened the Tahoe Central Market in Kings Beach, offering the same fresh produce direct to consumers. With a motto “farm to you overnight,” the store offers fresh, regional produce, deli goods, organic dairy products, and beer and wine.

It is a joy to receive high-quality produce in winter, because the Tahoe-Truckee farmers markets only operate in summer.

Tahoe Central Market is part of a growing trend to offer fresh, regional produce in Tahoe year-round. Mtn. Roots food trucks are parked at Squaw this winter, offering skiers an eclectic mix of regionally sourced food.

Tahoe Central Market’s produce comes from small family-owned farms such as Del Rio Botanicals and River Dog Farms in Yolo County, and well as PlacerGROWN’s Twin Peaks Orchard, and Sierra Valley Farms in Plumas County.

We’ve shopped at Tahoe Center Market this winter, and the selection is exceptional—fresh, organic kale, carrots and root vegetables, Meyer lemons, Mandarins and more.

An organic juice bar includes fresh-squeezed juices and smoothies, with wheatgrass and more. “Sweet Immunity” includes spinach, kale, celery, pear, peach and ginger juice.

Deli sandwiches are made to order, such as smoked turkey with housemade coleslaw on toasted jalapeño cheddar, and soups are homemade. (The sandwiches are made with Truckee Sourdough breads and Boar’s Head meats and cheeses).

Tahoe Central Market also offers artisan cheeses (Spring Hill), local products (Tahoe Teas), foothill wines (Amador County) and craft beers (21st Amendment and Lost Coast Brewery).

KINGS BEACH REVITALIZED
A $21.4 million revitalization of Kings Beach is underway. It will make it more inviting for people to walk around, visiting the local shops and restaurants.
