What’s new at Homewood Mountain Resort for 2013-2014

Homewood Mountain Resort, on the scenic West Shore of Lake Tahoe, is looking forward to its 52nd year of family-oriented skiing and snowboarding fun. New season pass offerings, lodging packages, après-ski specials and more enhance what is already one of the most comfortable ski experiences in Northern California.

Homewood is proud to start the 2013-14 ski season having just been awarded the Golden Eagle Award for environmental stewardship by the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA). The annual award is NSAA’s highest environmental honor and recognizes exemplary environmental performance in the ski resort industry, ranking Homewood among an exclusive group of environmentally responsible and forward-thinking resorts.

Homewood was recognized as the top resort in the “Small Ski Area” category – resorts with fewer than 200,000 skier visits annually – for its commitment to innovative watershed management and the water-quality monitoring work performed resort-wide over several years.

New for the 2013-14 season, Homewood will offer skiers and riders an unrestricted 3-pack of lift tickets for $177, or just $59 per day, valid every day of the 2013-14 ski season. The perfect Tahoe mini-pass, Homewood’s 3-pack allows guests to visit the resort for a long holiday weekend, or choose any 3 non-consecutive days throughout the season. Homewood 3-packs will be available online at SkiHomewood.com or at the resort.

NEW “HERITAGE” PASS

Building on the success of last year’s Family Season Pass, this season Homewood will offer a “Heritage 3 Generations Pass” which includes two adult, two teen/child, and two senior/super senior passes, all for just $1,299. In addition, Homewood’s Family Season Pass returns at just $999 for two adult plus two teen/child passes.

All season passes are valid every day of the 2013-14 winter season with no blackout dates.
Homewood continues its tradition of providing incredible value to first-time skiers and snowboarders with online-exclusive $49 Learn to Ski/Learn to Ride packages available at SkiHomewood.com. Homewood’s signature beginner packages include an all-day beginner lift ticket, all-day rentals and a half-day group lesson.

This season, Homewood will double down on its commitment to teaching new skiers and snowboarders how to enjoy their first days on the mountain with the expansion of its Smart Slopes™ sculpted beginner terrain. Homewood’s Smart Slopes™ concept incorporates man-made snow berms, gullies and other terrain features into its beginner slopes – features designed to ease the learning curve for first-time and novice skiers and riders.

Creating those man-made terrain features will be easier for the Homewood grooming staff this season as the resort has added a new PistenBully 400 Park Pro Series groomer to its fleet of snow cats, allowing for better groomed skiing and riding terrain both on the slopes and in the resort’s terrain parks and learning zones.
Homewood’s terrain park skiers and riders will have an innovative new urban terrain park available to them this season as Homewood unveils the Foundation Park – an urban-style terrain park located within an unused building foundation adjacent to Homewood’s mid-mountain Big Blue View Bar.

The location of an invitation-only film/photo shoot by Burton team riders in the spring of 2013, Homewood’s terrain park staff will be grooming out the Foundation Park all season long when conditions permit for skiers and riders to session this unique terrain feature.

WEST SHORE CAFE

Foodies visiting the resort will be excited to find that Homewood’s West Shore Café & Inn has a new chef – Mike Davis – who comes to the West Shore Café kitchen most recently from Martis Camp, but whose resume includes The Dining Room in The Salish Lodge and Spa in the Pacific Northwest and The Waterfront Hotel in Oakland.

Mike Davis has created a menu for the West Shore Café that draws from the best California has to offer – fresh, seasonal produce, seafood and meats – all prepared to accentuate the flavors inherent in each item. The dinner menu offers starters and entrees that will satisfy any appetite, and pair perfectly with the Café’s approachable wine list and cocktail menu.

New this year, the Backcountry Experience specialty lodging package from the West Shore Café and Inn includes a full day of snowcat access with Pacific Crest Snowcats to 3,000 acres of reserved terrain on Tahoe’s North Shore and fully stocked in-room fridge at the end of the day.

This exclusive add-on accommodates up to eight guests and is only available to groups who book all six rooms at the West Shore Café and Inn. The Backcountry Experience is $1,200 and is valid any day from January 5 through March 31, 2014.

NEW PERKS

Homewood season pass holders will enjoy new perks this season including four days of skiing/riding at Diamond Peak Resort above Incline Village. Like Homewood, Diamond Peak is known for a laid-back vibe, short lift lines and amazing views of Lake Tahoe – in fact, the slopes of Diamond Peak are visible from the slopes of Homewood and vice versa.

So now resort pass holders will have the opportunity to ski what they can see on the other side of the lake. The four days of skiing/riding at Diamond Peak compliment the unlimited privileges Homewood pass holders receive at Red Lodge Mountain Resort in Montana, the five days of skiing/riding at Whitefish Mountain Resort, and the 50% off lift ticket at Alta.

From the creators of the award winning film “All.I.Can,” Sherpas Cinema is proud to present their newest feature film “Into The Mind” at Homewood on November 24, 2013. With stunning cinematography and groundbreaking storytelling techniques, the Sherpas blur the lines between dream state and reality. Experience the majesty of Alaska, Bolivia, the Himalaya and beyond in this philosophical portrait of human kind.

Groups now have more flexibility with Homewood’s smaller group size requirements. Now groups of just 15 or more skiers/riders are eligible for the discounts previously reserved for 20 or more. With Homewood’s already affordable lift ticket prices, the reduced group sizes will enable more church, school and ski club organizations to enjoy time on the slopes in Tahoe at a significant discount over individual rates.

The Grill at Homewood will offer skiers and riders an expanded menu and a new outdoor winter beer garden at the North Lodge, perfect for skiers and riders looking to meet up in the afternoon.

Combined with the Big Blue View Bar & Grill, which offers an excellent mid-day, mid-mountain stop for food and refreshments, The Grill and Homewood’s family-friendly atmosphere make it an easy choice for parents who want to create happy memories for their kids, without going over their budget.

Introduced last season and poised to take off this winter, the Ski and Snowboard Teams at Homewood Mountain Resort continue to gain momentum as skiers and riders at both the competitive and developmental levels take advantage of the safe, fun and convenient learning opportunities.

Homewood’s Teams programs now offer a full 41 days of on-snow training throughout the winter season, making them comparable to the top-level race programs in the Tahoe Basin, at almost half the price.
