Tasting Notes: “Uncorked,” Movies, Pizza & Wine

UNCORKED IN NEVADA CITY
August 4, 1-5 p.m., in the historic downtown. Wander through Nevada City, enjoying its charm and a sampling of local wines and foods. More than 20 wineries and restaurants are participating.

WINE, FOOD & MUSIC
Naggiar’s Winefest at its spectacular “destination” winery includes tribute bands, such as Joel The Band (Billy Joel) on July 28; California Dreamin’ on August 25 and Garratt Wilkin & The Parrotheads (Jimmy Buffett) on Sept. 29. Complimentary live music Friday and Saturday nights, accompanied by gourmet “petite plates” for purchase.

SUNSET AT THE PEAK
Pilot Peak’s “Sunset Saturday” is a festive gathering with live music, tasty food and premium wines, from 6-10 p.m. on beautiful terraced gardens. The band plays on an outdoor stage in natural surroundings. Comparative wine tasting Saturdays and Sundays, from noon-5 p.m.

MOVIE IN THE VINEYARD
Montoliva’s Saturday night Movie in the Vineyard series, starting at 6:30 p.m., is a quintessential wine country experience. Fresh pizza, Tuscany-style wines and classic movies. Bring your lawn chair or beach blanket. July 14, Mondovino; Aug. 4, Quadrophenia; Aug. 18, Speedway; Sept. 8, Casablanca; and Sept. 15, Rocky Horror Picture Show. Wine tasting on weekends, from noon-5 p.m.

WINE PICNICS
Solune Winegrowers has a delightful shaded picnic area, so bring a lunch, sit back under
their tall trees and enjoy the view. Bent Metal has comfortable (and colorful) Adirondack chairs to kick back and enjoy the view of the Sierra mountains. Most of the wineries encourage picnics. Complimentary wine tasting on weekends at Solune and Bent Metal, among others, from noon- 5 p.m.

WOOD-FIRED PIZZA AND WINE
Sierra Knolls’ new wood-burning pizza oven in the wine garden of the Bear River Tasting Room is a foodie’s delight. Enjoy an artisan pizza with your favorite wine on weekends. New private label Sierra Knolls food items in the gift shop, including salad dressings, dipping sauces and BBQ glazes.

FLEETWOOD MAC MUSIC AT A STARR WINERY
Sierra Starr’s summer concert series, with award-winning wine, their own champagne and food, is a memorable outing. Tour the new winery facility, with sweeping views from above. June 23, Grease, Grit and Grime; July 20, Toni Cole and the Star People; and Aug. 11, Lorraine Gervais and the music of Fleetwood Mac.
