Don McClean and Judy Collins at Music in the Mountains’ SummerFest
We attended the preview of Music in the Mountains’ SummerFest at the Foothills Event Center in Grass Valley, and it’s an exciting lineup.
Singer-songwriter Don McLean, best known for the 1971 album “American Pie,” will perform on June 28, and singer-songwriter Judy Collins, known for singing Sondheim’s “Send in the Clowns,” will perform on June 30.
Both concerts are at Western Gateway Park in Penn Valley, a new venue for MIM.
Here’s the lineup:
Wednesday, June 22 at 3 p.m.: Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (Amaral Center at Nevada County Fairgrounds). This will include a performance by violinist Ray Anthony Trujillo.
Friday, June 24 at 8:15 p.m.: The Planets Under the Stars (Western Gateway Park)
Saturday, June 25 at 8:15 p.m.: Music of the Stage & Screen (Western Gateway Park). This includes Broadway and Hollywood hits.
Sunday, June 26 at 3 p.m.: Mozart Recital — Konstantin Soukhovetsky (Amaral Center). This includes music from harpist Sage Po, the new assistant director of MIM’s youth orchestra. She performed at the preview event.
Tuesday, June 28 at 3 p.m.: Seductive Strings (Amaral Center)
Tuesday, June 28 at 8:15 p.m.: Don McClean (Western Gateway Park)
Wednesday, June 29 at 8:15 p.m.: Dvorak & The Americans (Western Gateway Park). The MIM Chorus is performing.
Thursday, June 30 at 8:15 p.m.: An Evening with Judy Collins (Western Gateway Park). The MIM string quartet will join her.
Friday, July 1 at 8:15 p.m.: Russian Spectacular (Western Gateway Park). This includes music from Russian composers.
Saturday, July 2 at 8:15 p.m.: Pet Sounds (Western Gateway Park). This is a Beach Boys’ tribute.
Sunday, July 3 at 8:15 p.m.: Happy Birthday USA (Western Gateway Park). MIM artistic director Pete Nowlen is the conductor. For more information, visit MusicinTheMountains.org.
