Exclusive: InConcert’s Vandevorst in a debut conducting performance on December 14-15
InConcert Sierra’s new assistant artistic director Toon Vandevorst will have his conducting debut with the group’s Sierra Master Chorale and orchestra on December 14-15.
“Toon will be having his conducting debut with Poulenc’s Hodie and Sweelinck’s Hodie, two of our a cappella works on the program,” said Julie Hardin, InConcert Sierra’s executive director and a member of the Sierra Master Chorale. “They’re difficult pieces, and he has really worked hard on preparing the choir.”
InConcert Sierra recently named Toon (pronounced “tone”) as its new assistant artistic director. Toon will be working closely with Artistic Director Ken Hardin as the group begins its new season. Netherlands-born Vandevorst is an accomplished pianist, composer and singer who has studied with America’s most eminent musicians.
The new position will allow Hardin to focus even more attnetion on growth and programs. InConcert Sierra has been expanding its boundaries by attracting world-class talent, the latest being Pianist Emanuel Ax.
Foothills performing-arts groups are bolstering their ranks with new leaders. Music in the Mountains has appointed Peter Nowlen to the role of Artistic Advisor.
