Exclusive: World-renowned pianist Alessio Bax to perform in Grass Valley

InConcert Sierra has brought world-renowned pianists Emanuel Ax, Garrick Ohlsson and Nikolaî Lugansky to the foothills. Now it presents Italian classic pianist Alessio Bax on March 31, 2015, in Grass Valley, our magazine has learned.

Bax is a Steinway Artist and considered “perhaps the most elegant of today’s young pianists,” according to the The New Yorker. He has given recitals in Rome, Paris, London, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Hong Kong, New York, Washington and Mexico City.

In 2013 Bax received the Martin E. Segal Award from Lincoln Center, and the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award.

Hailed by International Piano as “a pianist of refreshing depth,” Bax’s extensive concerto repertoire has led to performances with such esteemed conductors as Marin Alsop, Sergiu Commisiona, Vernon Handley, Pietari Inkinen, Jonathan Nott, Vasily Petrenko, Sir Simon Rattle, Yuri Temirkanov, and Jaap van Zweden.

His international festival appearances include London’s International Piano Series (Queen Elizabeth Hall); the Verbier Festival in Switzerland; England’s Aldeburgh and Bath festivals; and the Ruhr Klavier-Festival, Beethovenfest Bonn, and Schloss Elmau in Germany.

He has also appeared multiple times at U.S. festivals such as Bravo! Vail, Bard Music Festival, and Music@Menlo.

In addition to being a pianist, Bax also writes about music and food on his blog, Have Piano, Will Travel and enjoys traveling. “It has been no secret that I am very passionate about food and cooking,” he writes.
