Grass Valley photographer’s work featured on Bing search engine’s homepage

Every day Microsoft’s Bing.com search engine — viewed by millions of people daily — features a photo of an amazing scene on its homepage. We were glad to see that today’s photo is from Josh Miller of Grass Valley.

It is a reminder of our region’s wonderful photographic talent, including David McKay, Elizabeth and Olof Carmel, Keith Sutter, David Wong and many others, regularly featured in our magazine.

“From climbing in the Sierra Nevada to exploring the rainforests of Panama, Josh has photographed some of the planet’s most exciting places,” as his website observes.

This is a photo of Horsetail Fall in Yosemite. “With the sun’s position in the sky at just the right angle in late winter, a clear evening means sunset will light up the water as it tumbles down the east side of El Capitan, creating a glowing ribbon of neon orange,” as Bing writes.

It required an 18-mile XC ski trip to get the shot, a tough trek in winter, according to Josh.

Josh grew up in Washington State and attended Pacific Lutheran University.

He began as a newspaper photographer and now is work has been published in National Geographic, Audobon and has been used by the Wild and Scenic Film Festival, among others.

This video — Yosemite HD — is a collaboration between Sheldon Neill and Colin Delehanty. All timelapses were shot on the Canon 5D Mark II with a variety of Canon L and Zeiss CP.2 Lenses.
