Make the most of your Open Studios or any Art or Craft Fair experience. Whether your goal is sales, networking, or both, learn how to successfully promote yourself as an artist, sell more work, create masterful displays and grow your contact list.

Julie Baker will provide helpful ideas in planning your promotions and sales, whether for the Open Studios or other art exhibit opportunities. David McKay will share his tips on how best to photograph, organize and display your work. Learn how to personalize your business transactions, engage your buyer, and creatively sell your work!


Julie Baker has more than 20 years of experience in arts marketing and management and is currently Executive Director of The Center for the Arts. Earlier in her career she worked in New York City for prominent art galleries and the international auction house Christie’s before becoming the President of her family’s art marketing agency. After selling the business in 1998 and moving to Nevada City, Julie was an Executive Producer for Tristream, a web development firm. In 2001 she opened Julie Baker Fine Art. She serves on the board of Nevada County Arts as the chair of the performing arts committee, and on the board of California Presenters.

David B. McKay has been a professional photographer for 35 years. Since 1974, he has had many shows and exhibits, won many awards, and has had his work published in local newspapers, magazines, brochures, and books. David published his first book in 2008, Yuba Seasons, winning five national, and four regional awards. His work is in private collections in New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Sacramento, and Poland (Maine). David has taught privately since 1975 in his studio, at a private photography school, and currently at Sierra College Nevada County Campus in northern California since 2000.
