Nevada City Farmers Market: Local farms for this year

The Nevada City Farmers Market begins on June 16 (Father’s Day weekend) and runs until November 17, 2012 (Weekend Before Thanksgiving). Here’s a list of the farms for this year:

Boxcar Farm
Based in Nevada City, California, Boxcar Farm sits among rolling hills and family vineyards on lush pastureland enriched by decades of happy grazing cows. By operating on a small scale and cultivating a large diversity of crops, without the use of machinery or excess fuel, we supports the strong sustainability movement in Nevada County. In our first season, we are working to sell as much of our produce locally– within ten miles of our farm site– as possible.

Chaffin Orchard
Chaffin Family Orchards is a diversified family farm in Oroville, California. We are located in Butte Valley on the northeast side of California’s Sacramento Valley. We serve local customers throughout the county and the surrounding area. Our locally produced products are fresh from the farm. This means no cold storage or fumigants to lengthen shelf life. All of our fruits are picked daily, weather permitting, and come directly from the orchard to the farm stand or market. Shipped fruits are harvested on the morning of shipment.

Dinner Bell Farm
Dinner Bell Farm is a partnership of friends farming in Chicago Park, CA, a lovely agricultural community just outside of Grass Valley. We run a 30 acre, diverse farming operation specializing in pasture-raised, heritage breed chicken. We farm because we love this earth and we believe that ecological agriculture is part of the solution. We farm because we want to grow the foods that grace the tables of you and your loved ones.

Four Frog Farm
Four Frog Farm embarks upon its fourth year in 2012. Thank you to all who have supported us in the past. This year promises to be filled with excitement, learning, adventure, and tribulations. Join us in support of Community, Fresh Organic Food, and Mother Nature. We strive for a balanced and harmonious way. Hard Work is our ethic, Love is our aspiration.

Fowler Family Farm
Fowler Family Farm is a small family farm in Nevada County, California. We started raising pastured broilers and layers in January 2008. We currently offer chicken, turkey, pork and eggs, all fed with organic grains to supplement fresh green pasture. Brad and Alana grew up in Nevada County and here is where we decided to raise our family. We are dedicated to helping Nevada County agriculture thrive.

Heaven and Earth Farm
Heaven and Earth Farm is a organic small family farm in our 11th year developing a beautiful property at 2,500 feet in Nevada County in the Northern Sierra. Amigo Bob is in his 36th year as an organic farmer.

Little Boy Flowers
Little Boy Flowers (formerly The Flower Project) grows high quality specialty cut flowers in Nevada City, California. Our growing practices aim to build the soil structure, enhance the nearby natural environments and work towards growing the healthiest, most long-lasting cut flowers you can buy.

Living Lands Agrarian Network
If you would like to buy fresh, local farm products from the farmers in our network, there are several ways you can! Our network of farmers collectively sell their farm products at the Living Lands Agrarian Network booth at the Nevada City Farmers Market. Enjoy the quality of our produce, grains, and other farm products, knowing it was grown with love and gratitude for the earth, and for the local ecosystem that makes our farms possible.

Massa Organics
Massa Organics is part of a small family farm located along the Sacramento River near Chico, California. Massa Organics is managed by Greg Massa and Raquel Krach, in partnership with Greg’s parents, Manuel and Mary Beth. We grow organic whole grain brown rice, which is available in two-pound packages, or in bulk. We partner with other members of the organic community to distribute our rice through farmers markets, CSA’s (Community Supported Agriculture), and grocery stores.

Mountain Bounty Farm
Mountain Bounty Farm is a 15-acre family farm located high on the forested contours of the San Juan Ridge near Nevada City, California. We grow an incredible diversity of vegetables, fruits and cut flowers for the Nevada City Farmers Market and our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. We aim to provide a reliable local source of the highest quality produce for Nevada County residents, and to work towards the economic sustainability of our rural community. We also want the farm to be a place of inspiration and beauty, a place to reconnect to food and the joys of food culture. We hope that Mountain Bounty will be a farm to celebrate, a farm that you help create and sustain for the future.

Pearson Family Orchard

Riverhill Farm
Riverhill Farm began in 2001 as a community-based fruit and vegetable farm located near Nevada City, California. It is a beautiful and natural site for a farm, the last level terrain before a 1500 ft. drop into the canyon of the Yuba River. The farm produces a diverse mix of vegetables and fruits, including many heirloom and specialty varieties.
