Growers market relocating to historic North Star House

The Nevada County growers’ market — one of the most popular farmers markets in the foothills — is relocating from the fairgrounds to the historic North Star House.

The North Star House, built in 1906, sits on a knoll on the mine’s property. It was designed by famous architect Julie Morgan, who designed Hearst Castle. In my mind, the new bucolic location will add a certain “je ne sais quoi” to this growers market.

All throughout the foothills, the markets are gaining in popularity.

“We will utilize the beautiful property for our growers market and have a stable and permanent location,” according to a member. “Please join us for our exciting new location on May 1, 2010.”

Just before Gate 4 of the Nevada County Fairgrounds, turn left onto Auburn Road. The address is 12075 Auburn Road.

The market will also add visibility to the North Star House, which is in need of restoration but could become a stunning location for events and concerts. Before it folded, the Foothill Theatre had planned to hold summer outdoor concerts there.
