“We’ve Got Talent”: Chicago Park Artist Roy Dryer

We dropped our magazines at the Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance at Obexer’s Boat Company on the West Shore this afternoon. The show is Friday and Saturday. We have a long-running partnership with the organizers.

We also visited with Roy Dryer, whom we feature in our current issue under “We’ve got talent,” along with renowned fiddler Alasdair Fraser and others who reside here.

Roy was setting up his artwork, and the marina was bustling for the upcoming show.

Roy is a longtime Chicago Park resident, and he has created the official poster for the Concours d’Elegance since 1984. I grabbed a photo of Roy this afternoon. Here’s our writeup of him:

“Born and raised in the Bay Area, Roy spent 10 years as an art educator before devoting his energy full-time to a career in fine art. During the past three decades, Roy’s artwork has focused on celebrating peoples’ passions for exotic, classic, antique and racing automobiles, the beauty of wooden boats and aircraft.

“From his studio in Chicago Park, Roy creates official event posters for Northern California’s premier events. Since 1984, Roy has created the official poster for the Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance. ‘I’m excited the boat show has moved to the West Shore,’ he says.

“Roy’s passion for his art also has paid tribute to beloved pets and racehorses, and showcased the true beauty of scenic wineries.

“His unique artistic style is perhaps best described as photo impressionistic, which creates a wonderful sense of believability by involving the viewer in the piece.”
