CATS teams up with Friends of Nevada County Library for Miss Saigon benefit

The reverent hush that falls over a crowd as the lights dim and the curtain rises, so similar to the silence that permeates a library – is it any wonder that one hush helps to support the other?

Most years, the Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra (CATS) has a benefit night for the Friends of the Nevada County Libraries. CATS is presenting Miss Saigon this spring, directed by Susan Mason with musical direction by Susan and Jeffrey Mason. The Friends’ benefit night is Friday, April 18 at 8 p.m.

The Friends wanted to do something grand this year, so on top of the play, they’re offering a special package option – a reception gala plus a Miss Saigon ticket for $45. The reception gala will include gourmet food and local wine. Limited to 35 people, this opening gala will be a lovely, intimate gathering before the evening’s entertainment and will begin at 6:30 p.m. Attendees purchasing the package option will also get advance seating – a very nice plus.

Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. for everyone not attending the gala. Tickets are available for purchase at all Nevada County Libraries except Truckee and are $28 in advance, $30 at the door. Tickets can also be purchased by sending in a self-addressed stamped envelope with check payment to 980 Helling Way, Nevada City, CA 95959 until April 4. Concessions will be sold during intermission, so even if you’re not one of the few to attend the gala, there will be many refreshment options available.

What a beautiful way to spend an evening – an amazing play and a fundraiser for the Friends of the Nevada County Libraries. Celebrate that creative hush. Stop by your local library and pick up a Miss Saigon ticket, and don’t forget to mention the package option for the small soiree before the main event.
