Howard Hughes’ estate at Lake Tahoe lists at $19.5 million

“Howard Hughes, the reclusive billionaire who left his mark on the aerospace industry, once owned a Lake Tahoe estate that has come on the market at $19.5 million,” according to the Los Angeles Times real estate section.

“The 5.5-acre property, set on Crystal Bay, was purchased by the current owners in 1995 from Howard Hughes Corp. Called Summertide, it centers on an Adirondacks-inspired log cabin home built in 1934 of local lumber.

“The living room features a stone fireplace and vaulted ceilings. There are five bedrooms, four bathrooms and an office in 2,518 square feet of living space. The kitchen and bathrooms have been remodeled.

“The five-parcel property has more than 500 feet of lake frontage, a pier/boat dock, meadowland and expansive views.

“Hughes, who died in 1976 at age 70, set multiple speed records as a flyer and owned Trans World Airlines. At the time his Lake Tahoe cabin was built, he was also a filmmaker. Among his movies were ‘Hell’s Angels’ (1930), ‘Scarface’ (1932) and ‘The Outlaw’ (1943).

“Karen Bruno and Tom Bruno of Chase International Real Estate are the listing agents.”
