Art Works Gallery: Local art by local artists

Grass Valley includes some of the foothills’ most talented artists. Now in its fourth year, the gallery has grown to 37 juried visual artists.

The artists, who live and work in Nevada County, specialize in jewelry, ceramics sculpture, furniture, wood, glass and mosaics, as well as photography, collage, watercolors, oil paintings, acrylics and drawings.

Their work is displayed in a renovated Gold Rush-era building at 113 Mill Street. The artists work together to keep the gallery fresh. They rotate the gallery space four times a year, displaying new work each time.

The artists also contribute to the community, such as displaying art from the Neighborhood Center of the Arts (NCA) in the fundraiser for the nonprofit. NCA provides adults with developmental disabilities to grow through the arts.

Art Works Gallery artists also hit the road with their artwork, acting as “art ambassadors” for our region in Hollywood, the East Coast and Latin America, among other places.

Kathryn Wronski’s dog art is displayed at the gallery, but it also is on the set of popular TV sitcoms, including How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory.

Mosaic artist Susan Crocenzi’s contemporary mosaic art is on display at the gallery as well. This winter, Susan joined 60 mosaic artists from across the world in creating a new mosaic mural that will adorn the front of town hall of Puento Alto, Chile, a suburb of Santiago.

This spring, Art Works Gallery artist Eileen Blodgett, along with artist Liz Collins, are leading an art retreat to Sayulita, Mexico. It is a chance to work with two talented mixed-media artists while staying in a Balinese-style home in a coastal jungle location.

INTERIOR DESIGN

More people are turning to local artists for interior design, including Summer Thyme’s and the HGTV Dream Home in Truckee. Art Works Gallery artists specialize in artwork for homes, including paintings, mosaics and wood and metalwork. A list of the artists is at ArtWorksGalleryCo-op.com
