Artist profile: Linda Roemisch

LINDA ROEMISCH IS A SELF-TAUGHT plein air and studio artist who works primarily in oil, pastel and watercolor.

Don’t be surprised to see Linda and her easel set up in the middle of a field or near a stream or creek, chasing the ever-moving light on the scene.

One of the nicest side effects from plein air painting is that Linda gets to meet people from all over the world as they travel on vacation. Another is seeing children’s faces light up when she shows them what she is painting on canvas.

“It just makes the scene more intimate and enhances the overall feeling of why I choose a particular scene to paint,” says Linda. Her outdoor studies and paintings are her inspiration for her studio paintings, because Linda does not want to rely solely on photographs to capture her subject.

She is drawn to painting landscapes, especially water scenes.

Linda sums up her passion with this quote from Robert Henri: “A true artist renders the landscape as a living thing on canvas.”

Linda serves on the board of the Pastel Society of the West Coast. She is a member of the California Art Club, Nevada County Plein Air Painters, The Meadow Group Plein Air Painters and Pioneer Arts.

She has taught classes in watercolor pouring and continues to give plein air demonstrations in pastel and oil.

Linda will be teaching a plein air class at the Clair Tappan Lodge in the fall. She enjoys doing custom commissions in both oil and pastel.

Her work can be seen at Art Works Gallery in Grass Valley and Spring Plein Air events at the Markleeville Gallery in Markleevile.
