Meet the artists at Art Works Gallery in Grass Valley

Meet some of the artists at Art Works Gallery in downtown Grass Valley, which just celebrated its third anniversary. More than 35 juried artists cooperate in presenting their work in this renovated Gold Rush-era building.

The work includes ceramic, glass, jewelry, painting, woodturning, furniture, fiber art, metal, mosaic, mixed media, photography and sculpture. For more information about the artists and the gallery, visit ArtWorksGalleryCo-op.com.

JUDY RATH, JEWELRY
“In 2000 I needed my mother’s pearl necklace restrung and could find no one who would knot between each pearl, so I taught myself how to do it.

“I loved the creativity of making jewelry, so over the years, I branched out into bead embroidery, bead weaving, lamp-work and eventually metalwork.”

“Whatever it is, you may be sure I have loved every minute of making it.”

CARTER HODGSON, CERAMIC GARDEN ART
“When moving to Grass Valley in 2001, we envisioned landscaping our property with California native plants and large-scale ceramic garden art. Our goal was two-fold: to create a serene natural setting enhanced with pottery and sculpture and share it with wildlife and other friends.”

SHEILA CAMERON, PAINTER
“I dreamt of Nevada County once before I even knew it existed. It was in color and now “I’m here, as a mother and an artist.

“My work examines the conflict between the natural world and civilized world. I’m compelled to show where I’ve been and where I am.” SheilaCameron

LINDA ROEMISCH, PAINTER
“To be able to be a part of nature; to listen, to observe, breathe in the scents and then attempt to capture all of that on canvas is a wel- come challenge and a privilege that I hope I never take for granted.” LindaRoemisch.com

EILEEN BLODGETT, PAINTER
“I love the dimensions that the process of fine art printmaking can reveal, and I have taken that process onto the canvas. Am I a painter? Or a printmaker? Who knows?” EileenBlodgett.com

DAVID WONG, PHOTOGRAPHY
“Romance is important in all my photos: It is the connection between what I produce as a photographer and the viewer. Without that, the photo has no intimacy.” PhotographybyDavidWong.com

DOUGLAS HOPE HOOPER, PHOTOGRAPHY
“My joy is to create images that include a sense of reality along with a glimpse of the dreamworld beyond.”
