Shakespeare, art hikes, classical music at Tahoe this summer

SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, JULY 8-AUG. 27

Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival’s 45th anniversary season at Sand Harbor, Lake Tahoe, is headlined by productions of “Love’s Labour’s Lost,” Shakespeare’s labor of love and laughter, and “The Hound of the Baskervilles,” a hilarious Sherlock Holmes whodunit based on the novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The productions are performed in rotating repertory Tuesday through Sunday, 7:30 p.m.

The festival offers al fresco dining at its on-site restaurant, Shakespeare’s Kitchen. Guests also can bring their own food or drink for picnicking. LakeTahoeShakespeare.com

LAKE TAHOE MUSIC FESTIVAL, AUG. 15-20
The Lake Tahoe Music Festival’s 20-piece Academy Orchestra presents a concert series at intimate outdoor settings on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe, Tahoe City and Truckee. Bring your picnic, low-back lawn chair and favorite beverage for wonderful evenings of music.

NORTH LAKE TAHOE PLEIN AIR OPEN, SEPT. 5-10
Artists gather to paint the amazing scenery of North Lake Tahoe “en plein air,” in the open air. Some of the 24 artists may be spotted painting along the lake shore, in the area’s scenic valleys, or blooming meadows.

The public exhibit is at Northstar California Resort during the Autumn Food and Wine Festival. North Tahoe Arts supports the visual arts in the North Tahoe-Truckee through exposure, education and participation. NorthTahoeArts.com


TRAILS & VISTAS, SEPT. 9

Trails & Vistas plays host to an exceptional experience, where art, nature and audience intersect. Starting at 9 a.m., at Galena Creek Regional Park on Mt. Rose, guides lead three-hour long hikes starting in 15-minute increments winding through 12 site-specific art installations. Participants enjoy music, performance art, and literary art pieces along a trail.

The Trails & Vistas World Concert for Peace is at 6:30 p.m. at the Shakespeare stage of Sand Harbor, Lake Tahoe. The evening is an exciting musical journey of art and sound, featuring Tim Eriksen. TrailsAndVistas.org
