Katherine Hill assumes ownership of Tahoe Weekly

Katherine E. Hill, longtime editor of The Tahoe Weekly, is the new owner and publisher of this iconic 32-year-old publication. The purchase from Palomar Tahoe Newspapers, Inc., was effective Nov. 14, 2013. Katherine remains Editor in Chief of The Tahoe Weekly.

A well-rounded journalist and publication manager, Katherine’s media credentials span a career of more than 20 years of information gathering, reporting and editing for daily and weekly newspapers, multi-media, Internet publications, and recently, as an App developer and contributor to Web sites that provide news and information about the greater Tahoe-Reno area.

She has won awards for her investigative reporting, community service awards, and recognition for her in-depth coverage of such events as Hurricane Katrina as Managing Editor of a daily newspaper in Mississippi. In recent years, Katherine also assumed a business role as Associate Publisher of The Tahoe Weekly.

Katherine earned a B.A. in political science from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va., and graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Masters in Journalism and Media Culture from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Va. She was awarded a fellowship with the National Press Foundation in Washington, D.C.

“I’m excited to be the new owner of The Weekly and look forward to continuing to publish a world-class magazine that highlights the best of Tahoe and Truckee,” Katherine said.

The Tahoe Weekly is the successor publication of North Tahoe Week, first published in 1982. Other name changes have occurred over the past 30 years, but The Weekly continues to emphasize opportunities for recreation, arts and entertainment, dining, and events.

Palomar Tahoe Newspaper owners Dale, Shirley, Charlie and Jenna Good issued this statement: “We are overjoyed that a member of The Weekly family will be guiding the magazine into the future. Katherine Hill has been our editor/associate publisher for the last 7 years. We could not have put the magazine in better hands. She loves this part of the world as much as we do and has been a big part of the success of The Weekly. ”

Published weekly through the prime tourism seasons in summer and winter, and biweekly during the rest of the year, the Weekly has been heralded for its cover photography featuring Lake Tahoe scenes. The Weekly is a member of the National Newspaper Association, North Lake Tahoe Resort Association, North Tahoe Business Association, Tahoe City Downtown Association, Truckee Downtown Merchants Association, Incline Community Business Association, and the Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce. In keeping with environmental priorities, the Weekly is printed on recycled paper with soy-based inks.
