Nevada City Winery features Taylor Wordell’s artwork in August

A show featuring local artist Taylor Wordell — “A Place, A Home” —runs the month of August at the Nevada City Winery art gallery. An opening reception is Friday, August 3, from 5-9 p.m. during the First Friday Art Walk.

Taylor Wordell grew up in Nevada City. Growing up in the mountains, she spent much of her childhood outdoors and creating stories. Taylor delved into painting as a career after an artist residency position in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Her art is a form of visual storytelling inspired by narratives, the colors of nature, and the human figure. Her pieces are a result of the relationship and conversation between form and color. She works primarily with acrylic paint and stretched canvas.

The show runs from August 3 to August 31 at 321 Spring Street in historic downtown Nevada City. Nevada City Winery is open daily from noon-6 p.m. with extended hours on weekends.

Nevada City Winery is the oldest operating winery in Nevada County. It offers an award-winning selection of wines; an onsite art gallery, gift shop, and outdoor covered patio. Its barrel room and production facilities are located downstairs below the tasting room. Its gallery hosts a different local artist each month and is open to the public free of charge.

The winery’s “Artist of the Month” reception for Taylor includes light appetizers and live music performed by singer-songwriter Davia. The musicians’s music is soft, dramatic, and ranges from solemn to quirky.
